Islamabad, January 20: A junior minister in the Pakistan government resigned Wednesday, saying he had limited authority and the problems of his ministry and constituents were not being resolved.
Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Nabeel Gabol, a leader of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, sent his resignation to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani this evening.
Gabol, who was elected to parliament from a constituency in Karachi, told the media that the problems of his ministry and constituents had not been resolved though he had taken them up several times with the federal government.
A brief statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said Gabol had “tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister due to personal reasons.” It did not say whether the resignation had been accepted.
“I do not have any differences with the government or the PPP,” Gabol told a TV news channel. He also said that he had limited authority as a minister of state and had been unable to address the issues of his constituents.
