Dubai, June 09: A driving instructor has been sentenced to a year in jail for having illicit sex with a housemaid, who claimed he raped her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday modified the rape charges against the 34-year-old Pakistani defendant, M.K., to having consensual sex with the Filipina housemaid.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir Fahmi jailed M.K. for one year followed by deportation.
When the defendant appeared in court, he pleaded not guilty and claimed that he had only had consensual sex with the housemaid.
Records showed that an Ajman-based company that recruited the housemaid, R.Z., 31, asked her to stay at M.K.’s house for a day until her passport was renewed.
Prosecutors had accused M.K. of raping R.Z. under intense psychological duress and threatening to repatriate her if she refused to have sex with him.
R.Z. subsequently became pregnant, records showed. According to the charge sheet, M.K. sneaked into the sitting room and forced himself on R.Z.
