Islamabad, July 18: Pakistan on Saturday filed a chargesheet in Adiala Jail in connection with last year’s Mumbai terror attacks case. The chargesheet names Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and its chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi as the main plotter and mastermind behind the deadly terror strikes. The chargesheet has also named Zarar Shah and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed as other accused in the case.
The document also shows Lakhvi as the accused who is in the custody of Pak authorities.
However, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that his government needs more information from India and added they were yet to receive a reply of their 32 questions.
Pakistan’s chargesheet follows the dossier handed over to India recently. According to reports, in the 36-page document Pakistan admitted that the lone captured terrorist in the attack, Ajmal Amir Kasab was a Pakistani national and that LeT was the main plotter in the attacks. The document is said to have substantial information about each accused in the 26/11 attacks.
India had expressed doubts over Pakistan’s intensions after JuD chief Hafiz Saeed was released from house arrest following a Lahore High Court order and the Punjab government’s move to withdraw its appeal against the JuD chief. The matter has now reached Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
The change in Pak’s stance comes after Indian Prime Minister met his Pakistani counterpart at the recent NAM summit in Egypt where they released a joint statement.
PM Manmohan Singh later made it clear that peace talks would take place once Pak takes action against the perpetrators of 26/11 attacks.
