Pak continuously violating ceasefire with an intent, says GOC 16 Corps

Jammu, Aug. 17 : The GOC of 16 Corps, Lt. Gen. R.R Nimbholkar, on Monday said the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the area of Poonch and Hamidpur are being done with an intent.

“The other side has carried out continuous ceasefire violations in Poonch and Hamidpur. It’s being done with an intent which we can’t put a finger on right now. Have to wait and see what they want to achieve,” Lt. Gen. Nimbholkar told ANI here.

“Ceasefire violation is going on without any provocation from us. Pakistan is carrying out firing at civilian areas, which is absolutely unethical, unprofessional and immoral. Our civilians have suffered because of this,” he added.

The GOC of 16 Corps further said that the Indian Army was giving a befitting and appropriate response to the firing from the other side of the border.

“They are causing damage at a larger level. Our security grid is in place and we are alert. We are helping the civilians, which is our duty too,” he said.

Pakistani troops earlier resorted to yet another ceasefire violation in Saujiyan sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian troops have retaliated to this unprovoked firing that started at 10 pm last night and lasted till 1 am.

The Ministry of External Affairs has yesterday summoned Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, to register its protest over recent ceasefire violations.

However, Basit blamed India for the cross border firings and said that the Pakistan Government is concerned about it. (ANI)
