Rawalpindi: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa left for Kabul to meet President Ashraf Ghani, on Tuesday.
As per Geo News, the invitation to Bajwa was extended by the Afghan president, DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted.
“Pakistan wishes to see the National Unity Government and US/ NATO succeeding to bring peace in Afghanistan,” Pak military spokesperson wrote on twitter.
Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain on Sunday said that Pakistan and Afghanistan will work together to draft a detailed strategy for establishing peace in Afghanistan.
Hussain said this at a session of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Qingdao.
“Pakistan and Afghanistan are working on a comprehensive strategy on a bilateral basis to establish peace in Afghanistan,” Hussain said.
Pakistan’s president appreciated Afghanistan for announcing a ceasefire with the Taliban, calling it a positive move.
Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani had earlier announced a ceasefire with the Taliban starting from the 27th of Ramzan (June 12) to the fifth day of Eid-ul-Fitr (June 19).
In response to Ghani’s announcement, the Taliban on Saturday declared a three-day ceasefire over the Eid holiday, two days after the Afghan government announced the ceasefire.
This is the first time the Taliban has agreed to a ceasefire since the US invasion in 2001.
Hussain concluded his speech by urging the leaders to take measures for capacity building and skill development of the youth in member states. (ANI)
