Pak, Chinese foreign ministers hold talks on CPEC

Islamabad: The foreign ministers of China and Pakistan, Wang Yi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, held bilateral discussions on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other issues of mutual interests.

Wang, who arrived in Pakistan for a three-day visit, reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s development and agreed for greater strategic cooperation between the two countries, Geo News reported.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Muhammad Faisal said, “Chinese State Councillor Yi underscored Beijing’s firm support to Pakistan’s socio-economic progress and development.”

“China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, economic cooperation, cultural and educational exchanges, and regional situation were discussed during the meeting,” he added.

Prior to the delegation-level talks, the two foreign ministers held a one-to-one meeting at the Foreign Office. Wang also invited Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to be the guest of honour at the International Import Expo in China.

The Chinese Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the National Assembly and the Army Chief.

This is the first official visit by a Chinese dignitary since the new government was formed in Pakistan.
