Painter killed in sibling clash over property

Hyderabad, September 24: Property dispute between two brothers led to one being murdered while the other was injured at Uppuguda on Thursday morning.

A painter from Balapur, Padma Rao (50) was killed in the scuffle that broke out during discussions to settle the property dispute, police said.

According to police, Padma Rao was a resident of Balapur. For the last 15 years, he was having a dispute with his younger brother Jangaiah regarding a share in their ancestral house at Narahari Nagar in Uppuguda. A civil case is also pending in a court regarding the dispute.

In the wee hours of Thursday, Padma Rao went to the house of his eldest brother Muthyalu who stays near Jangaiah’s house to discuss about a possible settlement. After negotiating between themselves, the duo went to Jangaiah’s house to hold negotiations with him.

During discussions, Padma Rao lost his cool and attacked Jangaiah with a knife leading to a minor stomach injury to the latter. Police said Jangaiah brought the knife with him. “Jangaiah managed to snatch the knife from Padma Rao and attacked him back.

He also hit Padma Rao with an iron rod,” according to Chatrinaka police. Padma Rao sustained severe stomach and head injuries, leading to his instant death.

Jangaiah was shifted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable.

Police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) against Jangaiah and his family members and also on Muthyalu following a complaint Jangaiah’s family members.

Padma Rao’s family alleged Muthyalu also took part in the attack on the deceased.
