New York: Indian tennis star Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis have won the U.S. Open mixed doubles title for 2015.
The fourth seeded Indo-Swiss pair defeated Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 to lift their third title of this season.
Paes and Hingis had earlier won the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championship.
Meanwhile, in a major shock, unseeded Italian Roberta Vinci stunned defending champion Serena Williams of the United States to reach the women’s singles final, ending the latter’s dream run of achieving a calendar-year Grand Slam.
In the semi final, 43rd ranked Vinci dethroned World Number One Serena 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In the other semi final, another Italian, the 26th seed Flavia Pennetta pipped out second seed Simona Halep of Romania 6-1, 6-3 to make it an all Italian Final.
Top seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated defending champion Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, while second seed Roger Federer beat Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 to enter the men’s final of the tournament. (ANI)
