New Delhi: Amidst death threats and protests from the right-wing group on controversial movie Padmavati, the committee on Information Technology has asked the Information and Broadcasting Minister to invite film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Central board of film certification (CBFC) Chief Prasoon Joshi, to appear before it on November 30.
For the past several weeks, several BJP leaders, Karni Sena group have been demanding a ban on the movie release of Padmavati alleging it is a distortion of history.
The committee on Information Technology has decided to meet with director Bhansali to discuss issues related to the movie.
According to the sources, the committee does not have authority to summon Bhansali hence it has asked the Ministry to invite the director and the ministry’s secretary to attend the meeting.
Earlier, Lok Sabha Committee has also asked the Ministry to report on the Padmavati row after two BJP MPs, Om Birla and CP Joshi, filed a plea seeking a ban on the movie, alleging “objectionable” content and distortion of History towards the Rajput community. The committee is also scheduled to meet on November 30 over the petitions.
