The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) here on Monday celebrated its 8th Annual Day on its premises at Sanathnagar by observing ‘Packaging Day’. AVPS Chakravarthi, Chairman of IIP Hyderabad center, Prof. N C Saha, IIP director and Madhab Chakraborty, joint director and Head of IIP Hyderabad and others were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Saha said Packaging was not known several years ago. Now things have changed and the retail concept enabled a big boom in the Indian packaging industry, he said, adding that in last 48 years the packaging industry expanded to Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. It has set up a regional center in Hyderabad eight years ago. He also said the seventh center of the IIP is coming up at Guwahati for which the Centre had already sanctioned Rs 5 crore. “We will take up construction of Audio Hall for Conference purposes at Sanathnagar at a cost of Rs 2crore. IIP is the only Packing institute in the entire world to have such a huge infrastructure in place”, he added.
AVPS Chakravarthi said people used to get into Packaging by default, when they couldn’t get through into any other program. Packing Training Programs are preferred by many on par with other best streams/disciplines. He also said more women are getting into Packaging. To mark the ‘Packaging Day’ today, a poster competition and exhibition by the students of current batch of PGDP (PG Diploma in Packaging) was held. Several faculty, Alumni members, students and others took part in the Cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the occasion.
Dolan Bhattacharya from Tech Mahindra gave a technical presentation on “Personal Care Products Packaging update” while Tarique Shahidi from Aurobindo Pharma Limited spoke on “Food Packaging Labelling update”. Shekar Das gave presentation on “Packaging of Pharmaceutical Products”. (NSS)
