Gaza, July 19: The Palestinian Authority’s caretaker Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad calls on the US to devise a new plan and set a timetable for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“I call anew on the United States to come up with a plan and a timetable for its application that will contribute to put an end to Jewish settlements and Israeli offensives, and lead to serious negotiations,” AFP quoted Fayyad as saying on Saturday.
The caretaker premier, who was speaking at the Kalandiya refugee camp, added that the international community has a responsibility to push Israel into respecting its peace commitments.
“Israel is turning its back on international legitimacy,” he told hundreds of Palestinian refugees in the camp located between the West Bank city of Ramallah and Jerusalem (al-Quds).
Fayyad was referring to the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance that it would not recognize agreements reached by previous Israeli administrations on peace with Palestinians.
