London [England]: Two goals from midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saw Arsenal outplay Reading 2-0 to book their place in the quarterfinals of the League Cup at the Emirates Stadium here on Wednesday.
When the two sides met at the same stage four year ago, Arsenal bounced back from 0-4 down to register an incredible 7-5 extra-time win, but this season’s encounter was a much more straightforward affair.
The Arsene Wenger-led side remained dominated throughout the match, with Oxlade-Chamberlain breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute,goal.com reported.
Arsenal got number of chances to tally a handsome score against the second-tier Reading, but visitors’ goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi stood firm for long periods to deny the same.
However, in the 78th minute of the match, Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled back one more goal to ensure Arsenal secure their spot in the last eight.
The match also saw forward Olivier Giroud’s returning from injury and Lucas Perez withdrawing with a knock in the second-half.
In another Capital One Cup clash, Liverpool edged past Tottenham 2-1 to roll into the quarter-finals of the competition. (ANI)
