HYDERABAD: The call by AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi to hoist tricolor atop their houses inspired the people in Hyderabad.
According to reports, many houses in several parts of Hyderabad hoisted the national flag atop their houses to mark their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The Hyderabad MP made the appeal while addressing a rally at Darussalam on December 21 night.
Owaisi requested the participants carrying the national flag to take them back to their homes and ensure that there is no disrespect to the tricolor.
“Whoever is against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) should fly tricolor atop their homes. This will send a message to BJP that they have made a wrong and ‘black’ law,” Owaisi said.
Religious scholars, leaders of various Muslim groups, social activists, lawyers and students including two female students of Jamia Millia Islamia also addressed the mammoth gathering.
The CAA, which was signed into law on December 12, is meant to grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist and Christian minorities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The law excludes Muslims and the Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka who seek refuge in India.
The passing of this Act has led to widespread protests all across India, especially in the northeastern region of the country.
