MIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi today expressed grave concern over free availability and sale of contraband drugs and other intoxicant substances in the city ruining the life of youth.
Speaking in the State Assembly during the discussion of Appropriation Bill, Akbaruddin was aghast at the way the youth were now getting addicted to psychosomatic drugs. The main reason for this was undoubtedly free access to these contraband drugs being available in the open market, he observed and pointed out some of the sources for these drugs were available in pubs, clubs and so on.
The MIM leader made a fervent appeal to the State Government to take strict measures to check the sources which make available these drugs. He also wanted the government to make sure that the police act firmly against the drug peddlers besides launching a campaign to wean away the youth from these addictions.
Owaisi also expressed anguish over the manner in which the State Government was allowing mushrooming of liquor shops in the twin cities.
Though there was a rule that licenses should not be given to liquor shops near schools, residential areas, places of worship and so on, the liquor shops have sprang up everywhere and what is more even big malls, exclusively for liquor have come up like in Jubilee Hills, he observed and said the very fact that Telangana State tops in excise revenue speaks for itself how generously the licenses are being given.
