Overseas Scholarship Scheme suffers setback

The Overseas Scholarship Scheme for minority students to study abroad has suffered setback. Although the Minority Welfare Department has selected candidates in two phases but no candidate is issued even the first instalment of scholarships. As per the scheme upto 10 lakh will be given to the selected candidates. The amount will be paid in two instalments.

But sadly not even the first instalment has been released so far, as a result restlessness prevails among the parents and guardians. There are several students who took admission in foreign universities after applying for the scholarship. Some of them even took loan in hope of getting scholarship. Government had allocated Rs. 25 Cr for the scheme but the amount has not been released to Minority Welfare Department. The high officials of the department give no assurance regarding issue of scholarship.
