Hyderabad: Under the overseas scholarship scheme for Minorities, 335 students have been found eligible. This decision was taken in the meeting of the state level selection committee held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare. The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Technical Education, Director of Social Welfare and representatives of VC of JNTU-H.
The list of candidates was prepared by Dept. of Minorities Welfare. The selection of the eligible candidates was made after reviewing the list in accordance with their ranks. Out of 534 applicants, 335 candidates were selected.
The selected candidates include 333 PG students and 2 students pursing Ph.D. course. In the selected candidates, there are 39 girls. After implementation of this scheme, for the first time, a large number of students has been found eligible to get this scholarship.
Mr. Omer Jaleel also told that Govt. is being requested to allocate the required budget for this scheme. Such of the candidates who did not fulfill the requisite conditions, were not considered. CM had instructed to select all the eligible candidates. The committee has therefore recommended 335 candidates. Mr. Omer Jaleel informed that Govt. has been requested to release an additional amount of Rs. 25 for meeting these expenses. The candidates selected under this scheme will be paid scholarship of Rs. 20 lakh in two installments of Rs. 10 lakh each.
It may be mentioned that so far, 592 students were selected. 140 students who were selected in the third stage have to be paid Rs. 18 crore. Govt. had allocated Rs. 40 crore this year for the implementation of this scheme out of which Rs. 12 crore was already released. He informed that even after the release of allocated budget, Rs. 25 crore additional amounts is required.
The list of selected candidates has been sent to Center for Good Governance which would be presented online.
