Hyderabad: A large number of Muslim students benefit from the Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme launched by the Telangana government. It is one of a kind scheme which provides financial assistance up to Rs. 2,00,000 to minority students for pursuing higher studies in post-graduate courses in foreign universities. The countries covered under the scheme are USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Singapore Germany, New Zealand, Japan, France and South Korea.
Siasat editor Mr. Zahid Ali Khan has played a key role in introducing the scheme. He had proposed to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to launch a scheme on the lines of Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi (AOVN) which provides for financial assistance to SC and ST students for pursuing higher studies in foreign universities. Besides, several reports were also published in this connection which had a positive impact. Today due to the scheme KCR has become popular among minorities.
Siasat editor Mr. Zahid Ali Khan not only played significant role in introducing the scheme, but he has been helping the aspirants too, to get the scholarship. 140 applications were submitted through Siasat Helpline out of which 103 have been selected.
