Hyderabad: The applications of minority candidates who have applied for overseas scholarship would be scrutinized tomorrow by a selection committee. The committee will consider all the 473 applications. It may be noted that in the first phase, scholarship was granted to 210 students and the first installment of fee amounting to 25 lakh was released. Later, 29 more students were selected and the first installment is yet to be released. Since the Govt. has released funds for the scheme, the first installment would be released for the 29 students.
Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare informed that in the second phase of selections, more than 200 students would be benefited. All those students who have complied with the conditions may get these scholarships.
Such of the students who had not applied for this scholarship and paid their first semester fee on their own are also eligible to submit their applications in the second semester.
It may be noted that the credit for the successful implementation of overseas scholarships scheme goes to the former Director of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Mr. Mohammed Jalaluddin Akbar who codified the guidelines of the scheme and played a key role in the preparation of online system of registration of applications.
