Over 6,000 pilgrims commence journey to Amarnath shrine

Jammu and Kashmir: Over 6000 pilgrims commenced their journey to pay obeisance at the Amarnath shrine, a day after the pilgrimage was suspended due to inclement weather.

Two convoys, comprising 2998 and 3163 pilgrims each, have left from Jammu for the Amarnath shrine through Baltal and Pahalgam routes, respectively.

Nearly two lakh pilgrims from across the country have reportedly registered themselves for the Yatra.

The first batch of pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra was flagged off on June 27. However, the pilgrimage was temporarily halted a day later due to heavy rainfall at the Baltal base camp.

On July 4, five people were killed and three injured after a landslide hit Brarimarg on the Baltal route.

Security measures have been taken, keeping in mind the ceasefire violations from across the border and various other terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
