Over 600 BJP workers held

Coimbatore, February 14: Over 600 BJP workers, including party’s Tamil Nadu unit vice-president H Raja, were arrested today while attempting to pay homage to those who were killed in serial blasts on February 14, 1998 here.

BJP workers assembled in large numbers on D B Road in the city, the venue where the three blasts occurred hours before party’s senior leader L K Advani was to address an election rally that day.

Tight vigil was maintained at the venue.

As the slogan-shouting workers reached the place and hoisted a saffron flag besides displaying a picture of Mother India, police arrested them for defying the ban on taking out processions.

Raja, who was at the spot, was also taken into custody, police said.
