Hyderabad, July 31: The Unique Identification Card (AADHAR) project in Andhra Pradesh is targeted to be completed by March 31, 2012, announced Commissioner Civil Supplied Andhra Pradesh Harpreet Singh and Assistant Director General Unique Identification Authority of India M Srinivas on Saturday.
Talking to the media persons at the Civil Supplies Bhavan, Mr Harpreet Singh said that as on July 30, a total of 55,04,579 cards were generated out of 1.80 crore enrolments through 3,364 stations in Andhra Pradesh.
The State Bank of India has set up 1,332 stations for enrolment where 41 lakh individuals have been enrolled out which above 15 lakh Aadhar cards have been prepared, while the India Post is running 11 centres where 4,786 persons have been enrolled, he said.
As per the procedure, the cards will be ready in 60 to 90 days after enrolment. “The enrolment is free of charge,” Mr Harpreet Singh said.
The iris of both the eyes and photographs of 10 fingers will be recorded along with the name, gender, age, address, Ration Card number of the individuals, the officials pointed out.
In Andhra Pradesh, the task has been assigned to Food and Civil Supplies Department for seven districts, Adilabad, Anantapur, Chittoor, East Godavari, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Srikakulam, while in the remaining 16 districts the project will be completed by the PDPL agencies.
To complete the project on time State Bank of Hyderabad, Union Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Corporation Bank, Canara Bank and other organisations will also be involved.
The AADHAR Cards will be used for obtaining Driving Licence, Passports, Ration Cards, Bank Accounts, Income Tax and other services.
All new LPG connections will be released on the basis of Aadhar Cards, they said.
