Over 50 tenders used to douse Agra fire

Agra, April 24: A fire at a printing press here was only doused Sunday afternoon after more than 50 fire tenders battled the blaze for hours, police said. No casualties were reported.

The two-storeyed printing press in the Shah Ganj area caught fire around midnight, police said, adding fire tenders had to be called from neighbouring districts of Firozabad and Mathura.

Fire brigade personnel alongwith residents of neighbouring houses had to demolish a part of the building to control the fire, after fears that the flames could threaten neighbouring houses and a cooking gas godown some 300 feet away.

According to the owner Shyam Sundar Viz, the damage to more than 20 machines and stocks of paper, chemicals and printing ink could total more than Rs.2 crore.
