Over 42 per cent clears OU Degree exams

Over 42 per cent of the students has cleared the third year examination of BA, B Com and B Sc conducted by the Osmania University.

Talking to media persons after releasing the results of annual examinations at Senate Hall in the Administrative Building in Osmania University premises on Wednesday, OU Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana informed that of 62,103 students who appeared for the third year exams, 26,626 students have passed taking the pass percentage to 42.87.

However, overall pass percentage in all the streams – Arts, Commerce and Science has registered a decline this year compared to previous years. While pass percentage in BA third year exams in 2010 was 55.74, it dropped to 46.79 per cent in 2011 and this year it was just 44.04. Similarly, in B Sc, the pass percentage dropped from 50.44 in 2010 to 49.53 in 2011 and this year it was just 34.84. Likewise, in B Com the pass percentage this year was 48.92 while it was 51.36 in 2011 and 61.41 per cent in 2010.

This year too, the girls have maintained their dominance in all the streams. In BA, 51.85 per cent girls passed the exam compared to 38.05 per cent boys. In B Com, while only 39.38 per cent boys cleared the exams, girls’ pass percentage was 62.10 per cent. In B Sc too, the girls out performed boys by registering pass percentage of 44.46 compared to boys’ 33.66 per cent.

OU Registrar Prof V Kishan said that the candidates could collect Memorandum of marks from their respective colleges after June 15. Request for revaluation applications will be accepted at the examination branch from June 8. The last date for applying the Revaluation/Recounting is June 19. The applications can also be submitted through the Principals of respective colleges.

Temporary online memos will be available on payment of Rs 25 through Demand Draft at the Examination Branch. The memos or Internet downloaded marks sheets will be accepted along with the application forms for Revaluation/Recounting.

Prof Satyanarayana said that the university has planned to launch new job-oriented courses from the next academic year. He also admitted that there was a shortage of teaching faculties in various streams. He also informed that the university was making efforts to release the results within 30 days of completion of examination from the next academic year. (INN)
