Over 25 Sikh couples to tie knot in ‘Samuhik Vivah Mahotsav’ on Sunday

The Prabandhak Committee of Gurudwara Saheb Barambala will organise ‘Samuhik Vivah Mahotsav’ on Sunday wherein over 25 couples will tie the knot.

According to Prabhandak Committee President S Harbans Singh and Andhra Pradesh Sikh Welfare Association’s General Secretary S Iqbal Singh said that the unique service was being provided keeping in view that many Sikh families who could not afford to perform lavish marriages that requires heavy expenditure running into lakhs.

The marriages will be performed in befitting manner as all the Prabhandak Committees of Sikh Gurudwaras in Andhra Pradesh are extending support for the successful conduct of the marriages, they said. However, only Gurmukh and Amrit Dhari Sikhs will be allowed for marriages and non-Sikhs are not entitled for marriages. The Prabhandak Committee is making all arrangements like staying facilities, Langar (breakfast, lunch etc) for two days for bride and bridegroom families.

This is the seventh year in a row that such marriages are being performed. The brides and bridegrooms hail from various districts Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra. Karnataka and other places.

The venue for the mass marriage is Gurudwara Saheb Baram Bala, Sikh Chawniat, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Nagar, Kishanbagh, where the main function “Anand Karaj” (solemnising of marriages) will be performed at 11.30 am on Sunday. The couples will take four rounds around Guru Granth Sahibji, an important formality for declaring the marriage

Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Minorities Welfare Minister Syed Mohammad Ahmedullah, Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu, Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhary and other dignitaries including senior Sikh Jathedars would attend the function.
