Over 2,000 acres of paddy fields submerged in Srikakulam

Over 2,000 acres of paddy fields got submerged due to flooding in the Right canal of Vamsadhara project following a breach at Ampolu in Gara mandal in Srikakakulam district. The inflows into the project have increased following incessant rains in the adjoining areas of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to media persons after inspecting the breach along with District Cooperative Marketing Society Chairman Krishna Murthy, Uttarandhra Vamsadhara Chief Engineer Jagan Mohan Rao said that a 4-metre stretch of breach has occurred at Ampolu in Right Canal and the officials are making efforts to contain the breach in the next 24 hours. He said that the breach was caused due to heavy flow of water following incessant rains in adjoining areas of Vamsadhara project in Odisha state.

Stating that about 60-70 cusecs of water was flowing in the Right canal, he said that heavy inflow of water was expected in the next 24 hours due to incessant rains in river basin areas in Odisha. (INN)
