Hyderabad: After a wait of nearly 8 months Waqf Board has now released 12 Cr for payment of arrears to Imams and Muezzins. It must be noted that the government had launched a scheme under which honorarium to Imams and muezzins was approved, but Waqf Board failed to implement the scheme. The payment was not made for the past 8 months. After the intervention of the government, the Waqf Board has released Rs. 12,61,31,500 for 7121 Imams and muezzins of 31 districts.
In spite of the staff crunch, the Waqf board employees worked day and night to clear 7121 applications and release the amount. The concerned department also lacks required computers.
Director Minority Welfare Shahnawaz Qasim has agreed to allot additional computers and staff to the department so that the honorarium to the imams and muezzins could be directly transferred to their bank accounts.
