Kolkata: Over 1,000 voter identity cards were recovered this morning from a bag in a garbage vat in the southern part of the city, police said.
Personnel from Thakurpukur police station and Kolkata Municipal Corporation acting on complaints by locals recovered the voter identity cards packed in the bag in the garbage bin on Diamond Harbour Road, they said.
“These cards going by their dates are quite old and belong to residents of Garden Reach, Metiabruz, Mahestala areas. It’s still unclear how they reached the garbage dump. We are looking into it,” a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
