Our responsibility to maintain ‘Swaraj’ with ‘Suraaj’: PM Modi

New Delhi: Underlining the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters to gain independence from the British, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that it is every India’s responsibility to preserve it with good governance.

The Prime Minister, after unfurling the national flag at the Red Fort to mark the 75th anniversary of the ‘Azad Hind government’ headed by Subhas Chandra Bose, remembered the freedom fighter and his dedication for India’s independence.

He said that Bose promised an India where everyone would be undivided by religions and have equal rights, but those dreams even after years of independence, remain unfulfilled.

“We have reached ‘Swaraj’ after lakhs of sacrifices. It is our responsibility to maintain this ‘Swaraj’ with ‘Suraaj’,” he said.

This day in 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose established the provincial Azad Hind government in Singapore.

After nearly a year, in August, his Indian National Army captured the Manipuri town of Moirang, which remained under the Azad Hind government for four months during which it had its own currency.

This provincial government had been acknowledged by 11 countries, including Japan.

Prime Minister Modi, in his speech, said that though India has reached a number of milestones, yet there are a number of objectives to be achieved.

Referring to his government at the Centre, the Prime Minister said that, they have taken several measures, and the best of the technology in the industry was brought to strengthen the India defence system.

“This government has the strength to make big and tough decisions, it will continue. Be it a surgical strike or making the files of Netaji public, the decision was taken by our government,” he said.
