OU students storm Secretariat

The Osmania University students today created a flutter in Telangana Secretariat by barging into the premises and staging a dharna demanding that the government refrain from allotting Osmania University land for house construction. However, the police rushed to the spot and dispersed them.

The incident took place when the officials and Ministers went out to visit their respective constituencies in connection with Swachh Hyderabad program. The dispute rose after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, participating in a Swachh Hyderabad program at Parsigutta, announced that he would allot 11 acres of Osmania University land to the poor people living in Parsigutta area.

The students said instead of evicting encroachers from the Osmania University lands, the Chief Minister was planning to allot OU lands for houses construction. Some 20 students belonging to NSUI staged a dharna in front of the Chief Minister’s Office and raised slogans. Demanding that the OU lands should be protected from land sharks, they accused the Chief Minister of adopting “anti-student” policies.

They also alleged that the Chief Minister has miserably failed to issue job notifications to benefit the students, who supported Telangana movement outright. They urged the people and public organizations to extend their support to the students in this regard.

The police entered the scene and arrested them and sent them out. During students’ arrests, several students received injuries. The Secretariat employees came out from their offices and watched the students’ dharna. (NSS)
