OU Professor to participate in international meet on African literature

Prof T Vijay Kumar of the Department of English, Osmania University has been invited by Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA to participate in the fifth Chinua Achebe Colloquium on Africa scheduled for 2-3 May 2014.

Founded by the famed Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe (1930-2013), who was Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University, the Achebe Colloquium brings together an international group of scholars, officials from African governments, the United Nations, North America, the European Union, and other organizations for two days of intense deliberation and exchange of ideas on the importance of Art, Literature and Culture.

The 2014 Colloquium will focus on “African Literature as Restoration: Chinua Achebe as Teacher”. Prof Vijay Kumar, the lone participant from India at this prestigious international event, has been invited to take part in the panel discussion on “No Longer at Ease: The Uneasy Relationship Between the Poet and Emperor”.
