Hyderabad, January 19: Notwithstanding the call from students to boycott all examinations, the state government has decided to conduct the semester examinations for MBA and MCA programmes in Osmania University from January 20 as per schedule.
The government has also decided to look into the complaints against the lecturers who are allegedly neglecting their duties and participating in agitations for and against separate Telangana along with students.
Briefing the media after holding a meeting today with the vice-chancellors of 10 major universities in the state, Minister for Higher and Technical Education C Damodara Rajanarasimha said that the government had been sympathetic towards students’ request to postpone the examinations earlier and had scheduled them to to January 20.
“The examinations were postponed upon the request earlier but they should understand that it is our responsibility to ensure that students do not lose their academic year,” he said.
Regarding the students’ decision to boycott the examinations, the minister said that people were free to act as per their wish in a democratic country and it was upto them to decide whether to appear for examinations or not.
Several issues pertaining to various universities like financial condition, admissions, student-teacher relations, teaching and examination methods, infrastructure, the developments in various universities in the wake of Telangana movement and suicides of students were discussed during the meeting.
The vice-chancellors of universities in Telangana region were asked to take precautions and ensure that the academic year was not lost due to the separate statehood struggle.
