The Telangana Government will conduct the Osmania University Centenary celebrations in a great manner for three days from April 26 to 28 next year, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has said.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, the Deputy Chief Minister said the State government was planning to invite either President Pranab Mukherjee or Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the event that will go into annals of history of Telangana State. Launched during the Nizam regime, the varsity has so far produced over one crore students, who rose to top level in various fields and serving the nation and the world as well.
Srihari, who holds Education portfolio, today held a high-level review meeting with Education special chief secretary Ranjeeva Acharya, officials, MP K Keshav Rao and Osmania University Vice- Chancellor Ramachandram at the Secretariat here. Srihar said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed them to conduct the OU centenary festival in a grand manner to reflect its history and prominence. As per KCR directive, the officials concerned were instructed to make necessary arrangements for making the celebrations a grand success through formation of invitation committee, finance committee and estimates committee.
The celebrations will be conducted to see that the people of the country, alumni and other varsities remember them, he said. As part of the centenary, it is being planned to form a confederation of vice chancellors of all varsities in India, launch a book comprising top 100 publications of the Osmania varsity, meetings of old students holding top level positions across the world, workshops and symposia besides conducting cultural programs to reflect our tradition. The centenary logo, brochure, website and Telangana Study Center will be launched soon.
The Osmania University will be spruced up for the centenary extravaganza with repairs of buildings, roads, paintings, roads, sign boards, meeting and conference halls and special facilities. Intellectuals and enthusiasts should give suggestions to make the event a grand success and share information related to varsity events, historic programs to be presented in the event. A special website for the centenary celebrations will be launched soon and people can share views and suggestions. (NSS)
