OU centenary fete to be held on grand note: Srihari

Osmania University Centenary Celebrations will be conducted for three days from April 27 to 29 to reflect Telangana history and culture, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today said.

Speaking to mediapersons after holding a high-level meeting with MP Keshav Rao and officials concerned at Secretariat here, Srihari said the State Government and the University administration were making arrangements for the successful conduct of the event. It was planned to conduct year long celebrations of the varsity to remain in Telangana history, he said. In a few days, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will release a logo, brochure and poster and other material pertaining to the Osmania Centenary celebrations, he said.

Srihari, who is also Education minister, has said that on the first day, April 27 a crucial meeting of Vice-Cchancellors will be conducted. The Centre has agreed to hold an International Science Fair and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar is expected to participate in it, Srihari said.

“The Telangana Sanskritika Sarathi will organize programs to reflect our culture and tradition and 30 committees will be set up, including centenary celebrations committee, reception committee, organising committee”, he added. Besides inviting Union Human Resources Ministry, IACTU and UGC it was planned to seek funds from the Centre for the event, Srihari said. A booklet comprising 100 top publications and a booklet of alumni, who are noted in various fields, will be brought out on the occasion.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said a special video on the history of the varsity will be prepared for future generations. Refuting the comments that the varsity lacks recognition from the National Association of Accreditation Council (NAAC), Srihari said due to lack of regular vice chancellor it was delayed. Efforts were on to get NAAC recognition by March this year, he said, adding that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has cleared the pending mess bills of the varsity.
