OU Campus Tense After Dharnas And Arrests

Tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus today for a different reason. The students, who observed State wide bandh on Wednesday protesting against the murder of Law student Aruna, tried to organize a rally from Law College to the Secretariat.

The police obstructed the rally at the NCC Gate and arrested the students and shifted them to Nallakunta Police Station. The students demanded that the State government arrest the culprit one Shiva Kumar, who allegedly raped and murdered Aruna, and hang him to death.

On the other hand, the girl students staged a dharna at the Women’s Hostel. Arunodaya Cultural Council chief Vimalakka extended solidarity with the protesters by participating in the Deeksha. She demanded that the State government arrest the culprit immediately and bring him to book.

The girl students also demanded that Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, who failed to stop the atrocities against the women in the State, tender resignation. They also demanded that the State Government punish the culprits severely and see that such heinous incidents did not recur. (NSS)
