OU on boil again

Osmania University is on the boil once again as the students clashed with police on Monday. The situation became tense after hundreds of students under the auspices of Telangana Vidhyarthi Parishad tried to take out a procession from the OU campus to the state Assembly. The demonstrators were demanding the state government declare September 17 as “Telangana Liberation Day” to commemorate the region’s freedom from the erstwhile Nizam rule.

Police prevented them from taking out the rally, following which the students pelted stones and police in turn lobbed teargas shells on protesters.

Some of the protestors were also taken in preventive custody by the police which further angered the students group which intensified the protest resulting in stone pelting incidents.

In the wake of five-day monsoon session of Andhra Pradesh Legislature Hyderabad Police issued prohibitory orders around the AP Legislative Assembly/Council building for six days including ban on rallies processions etc.
