Hyderabad: In yet another shocking incident reported from Hyderabad, the Head of the General Medicine Department of the renowned historic Osmania Medical College (OMC) was caught red-handed demanding bribe to pass medical students in the semester examination.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday have arrested the HOD Bhukya Balaji for allegedly demanding money from the students in order to pass them.
According to reports, Mr Balaji informed the students of their poor performance and told them they would not pass the semester unless he helps them out on March 2.
The very next day he called few students and noted their hall ticket numbers including their contact numbers.
On the very same day, Mr Balaji put forth a deal before the students for them to pass their semester. He demanded Rs 50,000 each per candidate to help them pass their examination.
He continued to demand the students to pay the amount even when the students told him that they could not afford to pay such a huge amount.
He also forwarded a photograph of a cheque in the name of Rathlavath Srinu’s account on Whatsapp and demanded to do the transaction on this account.
Some of the students transferred an amount of Rs.75,000 to Srinu’s account through Tez/Google Pay and later approached the ACB sleuths to register a case against the HOD.
Preliminary inquiry and searches were carried out at Balaji’s office in OMC in Koti and residence in DD Colony where the Police seized evidential documents showing the collection of money made from medical college students.
Evidential Documents related to sale and purchase of properties in his name and his family members were also found said the press release issued by ACB.
Mr Balaji was produced before the special court for ACB cases and later remanded to judicial custody.
