Osmania Hospital: Doctors wearing helmets with a placard saying ‘Unsafe Zone’

Osmania General Hospital which is one of the oldest hospitals in India and which is run by the Government of Telangana, and is one of the largest in the state. The hospital building, a heritage structure is in dire need of repairs and renovation.

Doctors at the Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad held a protest to draw attention towards the bad condition of the biggest government hospital in Telangana. The recent incidents have raised concerns and panic among the staff. Some were seen donning helmets within the premises, with a placard saying ‘Unsafe Zone’.

Many doctors have been wearing helmets during their work hours, as there have been multiple instances where chunks of the roof of the hospital have fallen endangering the safety of patients, doctors and other staff members. At least five people have been injured.

Though In April, Telangana Health Minister Laxma Reddy had assured that their concerns would be addressed but still nothing happened. Hyderabad’s civic body had said that the building is unsafe, while the Telangana state medical infrastructure development corporation had declared at least two floors are unsafe.
