Bhubaneswar, August 30: Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) suspended right arm off-spinner Sanjay Satpathy for one year and issued show notice to show to him as to why stringent disciplinary action to the extent of permanent ban would not be imposed on him, OCA secretary Ashirbad Behera said today.
Satpathy, who is the second successful bowler of the state after India discard Debasish Mohanty, had raised voice in the media against the OCA recently after being ignored in the short-listed probables for the upcoming domestic season.
Taking strong exception to the “false” and “baseless” allegation against OCA, its Senior Selection and the Tournament & Disciplinary Committee which met today construed the comments as “misconduct”, Behera said.
Satpathy, who played uninterrupted cricket for over a decade after his Ranji Trophy debut in 1996-97 against Maharashtra, had bagged 208 wickets at an average of 27.81 in 63 matches.
Satpathy had also represented East Zone in the Duleep and Deodhar Trophy and Board President’s XI against New Zealand.
