Hyderabad, January 24: TDP Telangana leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said the Srikrishna Committee’s sixth option, keeping the state united with guarantees for Telangana, was not implementable as it requires a Constitution amendment.
Speaking to reporters here today, Janardhan Reddy, convener of the TDP’s Telangana forum, said creation of a statutorily empowered Telangana Regional Council would need an amendment to the Constitution, which stood little chance of being passed in Parliament as it would need two-thirds majority. Nagam said it was unlikely that the BJP, the main opposition in Parliament, would back such an amendment.
He pointed out that the Gentleman’s Agreement drawn up at the time of the formation of Andhra Pradesh was not implemented in the last 50 years and regional development councils have proven to be of no use to the people. The Congress has been hoodwinking the people of Telangana with such empty devices since 1956, he alleged.
‘’The Congress has failed to implement GO 610, Girglani report, the Six Point Formula and others. Nothing would happen even if the sixth option of the Srikrishna Committee is implemented,’’ he felt.
He said the only way Telangana’s interests would be protected was to introduce a Bill in Parliament creating a separate Telangana state. “TDP Telangana activists will obstruct the state government’s Racchabanda programme in Telangana,” Nagam said and called upon all political parties to unite in this regard.
TDP president Chandrababu Naidu has already ordered his party fot soldiers to obstruct Racchabanda.
The government was conducting the Racchabanda ostensibly for the purpose of dispensing ration cards and such like sops, but the people of Telangana wanted nothing short of a separate state. “Give us our state. We will ensure that all our people get ration cards, houses and other welfare schemes,” Nagam said.
He demanded postponement of all post-graduation examinations till separate Telangana is carvedout.
Asked about his party colleague M Narasimulu’s recent criticism of him, Janardhan Reddy said he would not speak on any issue other than Racchabanda today.
