Gandhinagar, July 10: The Opposition Congress protested by raising anti-government slogans in Gujarat Assembly for the second consecutive day on Thursday on the issue of hooch tragedy which claimed over 70 lives in the State.
They shouted slogans against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of State for Home Amit Shah over the hooch tragedy which killed 73 people, who consumed the spurious liquor on Sunday night.
Soon after the House assembled, Congress members started raising slogans over the incident. Some of the Opposition members rushed to the well of the House demanding action against those responsible for distributing spurious liquor in the “dry” state.
Speaker Ashok Bhatt asked the members to restrain from shouting and to take their seats, but the agitating members did not heed and continued shouting slogans.
Some of the Congress members also broke the mikes fitted on the desk of the Assembly seats and one of them even climbed the desk while raising anti-government slogans.
After about 15 minutes, Speaker asked all the Congress MLAs to leave the House. They raised slogans against the government in the lobby of the House also.
Congress members alleged that some BJP leaders were responsible for the spurious liquor.
