Opposition parties on Thursday staged a protest here to oppose the Telangana government’s proposal to provide 12 percent reservation to Muslims.
The state government Wednesday decided to constitute a commission headed by a retired judge of the high court to consider increasing the quota for Muslims from existing four percent to 12 percent.
However, Mr. Shabbir and leader of opposition D.srinivas raised doubts over the government’s commitment. They pointed out that even five percent reservation announced for Muslims in the united Andhra Pradesh in 2004, was struck down by the court.
Further opposition parties point out that how can Govt gives 12 percent reservation for Muslim in education and Jobs while projecting their population as 11% in T staste.However Deputy CM Mohd Mahboob Ali admitted that 11% population as printing error.
Deputy CM told that error was being corrected and the state government has decided on Wednesday to constitute a commission headed by a retired judge of the high court to consider increasing the quota for Muslims from existing four percent to 12 percent.
Muslims constitute 12.43 percent of Telangana’s 35 million population. Mr. Shabbir sought to know that how the State Govt proposed 12% reservations being knowing that the BJP Govt in the center would reject it.
The chief minister, while trying to allay the apprehensions last month, hinted that Telangana may follow Tamil Nadu model to provide reservations to weaker sections of the society.
