Opposition parties demand Assembly session

Hyderabad, November 01: All opposition parties have unanimously demanded convening of assembly session although for different reasons.

Participating in the meeting of floor leaders held by AP State Legislative Speaker Nadendla Manohar here on Monday, the representatives of all opposition parties requested the Speaker to convene the session to discuss issues concerning the people in the State.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, TDP deputy floor leader Gali Muddukrishnamma Naidu said that the assembly session should be convened to discuss the outbreak of diseases, especially Dengue and other vector born diseases, in the State. He said that the last session held in June could not be counted as a regular session as it was only day-long and was convened only to elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Gali also slammed the State Government for delaying the constitution of House Committee to probe the allotment of nearly 1.70 lakh acres of lands in the State for various purposes. He said his party has asked the Speaker on delay in constitution of House Committee although the government promised it almost seven months ago. He demanded that allotments done during the Congress regime from 2004 till now should be probed.

TRS floor leader Etela Rajender also demanded that the assembly session be convened to discuss the public health, especially in the Telangana region. He was alleged that the PAC and PECs were not working properly. He also accused the Speaker Nadendla Manohar of taking advantage of his position and not understanding the feelings of people in the Telangana region.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Y Lakshminarayana also raised the issue of delay in constituting the House Committee to probe land allotments. However, he said that the Speaker has asked all the parties to submit the names of the representatives to be included in the proposed committee by November 10.

Lok Satta MLA Jayprakash Narayan also demanded that the State Government order probe into the misuse of official funds and take stern action against the culprits. He said that the public representatives should be given information under the RTI Act within three days. He also urged that the CBI extend its probe into Emaar and other irregularities to other land allotments. He also demanded that the assembly be convened to discuss the issues concerned general public.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was represented by Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri. However, he did not speak to the media.

Later, Finance Minister Anam Ram Narayana Reddy said that the government was firm on its commitment on constitution of House Committee on land allotments. He said that the government would soon come out with all the details related to land allotments including the activities at Special Economic Zone.
