Bangalore, December 30: Karnataka Assembly today witnessed an unprecedented scene during the election of the Speaker with Opposition Janata Dal(S) and Congress Members marred the proceedings by shouting slogans and uprooting mikes of the podium.
Earlier, the Opposition Members made an appeal to postpone the election of the new Speaker following the death of veteran Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan, who died in Mysore this morning.
They trooped into the well of the House after Mr Yogish Bhat, who was in the Chair, announced the conduct of election through a motion.
Some members of the Opposition, including Zamir Ahmed (JD-S) and Kaka Saheb Patil (Congress) climbed the Podium menacingly and uprooted mikes, snatched papers and pens from the Chairman and shouted slogans against the government in protest against the Chair’s decision to go ahead with the election motion.
