Hyderabad, December 29: Four persons, including a police constable and an advocate of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, were today arrested from Necklace Road here and 2.5 kg of opium worth over Rs 25 lakh was seized from them, a top official said.
On credible information, a team of Prohibition and Excise raided a place near MMTS railway station near Necklace road and nabbed the accused, including AP Special Police constable Ketha Ramu and a high court advocate R Venkat Reddy, and recovered 2.5 kg opium from their possession, Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise M M Faruqui told reporters.
The accused were planning to sell the opium to youth particularly students, the senior Excise official said, adding the value of the contraband is estimated over Rs 25 lakh in grey market. Further investigation is underway to trace the kingpin, Faruqui added.
