On the first day of its Special Drive “Operation Black Film” against the use of tint films on the safety glasses of 4-wheelers, the Hyderabad Traffic Police on Thursday registered as many as 3,411 cases against the violators.
They include 13 police vehicles, 29 vehicles of others government departments and 35 big vehicles like buses and trucks. These cases have been registered across 25 Traffic Police till 4 pm on Thursday.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) CV Anand, the Supreme Court orders prohibiting affixing of tint films on the safety glasses were being enforced after two weeks of vigorous education through visual and print media, FM Radio and issue of 5 lakh Pamphlets. He said that the Traffic Police was still focusing on education based enforcement in an attempt to reduce the harassment to the car owners. However, he said after two weeks of education, it was noticed that only 10 to 15 per cent of the car owners complied with the Court Orders.
Anand said that on Thursday, only Rs 100 was charged as fine instead of Rs 500, so that the drivers were not burdened, but at the same time, the message is sent that the police was serious about implementing the Court Order. He said following requests for more time to get black films removed, the Traffic Police will continue the same level of enforcement of by imposing Rs 100 challan, removing a part of the black film and giving a pamphlet for further education of the Supreme Court Order for the next five to six days. Depending on the level of compliance, the drive will be intensified in future, he said.
The Additional Commissioner also directed the car accessory shop owners to charge only Rs 100 to remove the black films.
