New Delhi: Ashok Gehlot general secretary, Congress said on Wednesday that the party would contest elections in alliance with other Opposition parties to stop the BJP.
Mr. Gehlot affirms the party’s readiness to broaden the anti-BJP coalition at the national level and also in the next round of critical elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has begun meeting leaders of different parties to put up a united front against the BJP-led NDA ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Congress is likely to make all efforts to project Rahul as a credible challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.
In a bid to forge opposition unity, Banerjee had also met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi couple of months back and stressed on the need for a united front against the BJP.
The Trinamool Congress leader also met a host of other opposition leaders, including NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, during her two-day visit to the national capital to explore possibilities of a “federal front” to take on the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Gehlot said that the Congress will expose the Modi government over its alleged failure on various fronts in the last four years and will observe May 26 as Vishwasghat Divas (Betrayal Day), party general secretary Ashok Gehlot said here today.
The party will mark four years of the completion of the Modi government with protests in every district of the country, Gehlot and Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said at a joint press conference.
Terming the government fascist and corrupt, Gehlot charged it with destroying the country.
The Congress along with other like-minded parties have taken a pledge to oust it from power in the country, he added.
On completion of four years of the BJP-led government on May 26, the Congress has decided to hold dharnas, protests in every district of the country to expose the BJP for its betrayal of people’s trust. The Congress will raise all issues due to which the common man is troubled by this government, Gehlot said.
