Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police’s Crime Branch on Sunday registered two separate cases against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Congress leader K. C. Venugopal following complaints pertaining to alleged sexual abuse registered by solar scam accused Saritha Nair.
Chandy has been booked under Section 377 (unnatural sex) and Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), while Venugopal has been booked under Section 376 (rape) and Section 354 (assault on woman) of the IPC.
Saritha had filed a complaint with Special Investigation Team head Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anil Kant.
Complaints against six more politicians are to be filed by Saritha. A new special team will be constituted to probe the complaint.
The solar scam took place in 2013 when the United Democratic Front (UDF) government led by Chandy was in power.
Chandy and his staff members – Tenny Joppen, Jikkumon Jacob and gunman Salim Raj – had allegedly helped the prime accused in the solar scam, Saritha S. Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan, and cheated several clients of lakhs of rupees after promising to set up solar panels.
