With onset of Ramadan: GHMC asks hoteliers to maintain hygiene while cooking Haleem

Hyderabad: As the holy month of Ramadan is just a fortnight away, the GHMC has issued instructions to all hoteliers about the norms that they need to follow while preparing Haleem. The norms include placing the Haleem bhatti only on the ground floor and procuring stamped meat alone.

GHMC convened a meeting with several hoteliers at the headquarters which was chaired by civic chief B Janardhan Reddy. An official from the health and sanitation wing of GHMC clarified that all this is done to ensure hygienic food to people and not to penalise anyone.

As reported by the Times of India, the hoteliers were also asked to follow civic norms while disposing the waste. Other norms include, utensils made of copper should be coated with nickel to prevent food poisoning, and there should be proper ventilation with adequate exhaust fans in the kitchens where Haleem is made, to ensure the safety and health of the workers. Apart from this hoteliers are instructed to provide clean clothing, masks and head caps to the staffers preparing Haleem throughout the Holy month.

Food enthusiasts in the city have welcomed these safety measures.
