Minister for Forests and Social Welfare Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, who had been earlier maintaining that Rs 327 crore coming from the Centre would be distributed among the beneficiaries of the SC Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme by September 30, on Thursday said only Rs 171 crore from the grant would now be doled out.
The minister, who is here on the eve of Guru Nanak Gurpurb to start a plantation drive from Jabbowal village in Sultanpur Lodhi, said the remaining amount could not be used as it had come only for academic session 2015-16, during which there had been several anomalies. “We cannot pay the remaining amount as the audit report points to irregularities in seeking the scholarship by the colleges and students for the period. We will also make a part payment for 2016-17 from Rs 171-crore disbursement,” he said, adding that students from medical, nursing, law, pharmacy and even humanities would also be paid up for 2015-16 from the amount to be distributed, as against the report that only engineering colleges were being covered.
The minister, who had been claiming since the past three months that the audit report was near completion, said it was completed only till 2015-16.
