The Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj got its new building just three years ago. Constructed on 5 acre land in a record period of 16 months, the Maternity Hospital was supposed to be a sophisticated facility but the situation is on the contrary. The hospital is plagued with several problems including more number of patients than the capacity, poor cleaning arrangements, proliferation of dogs outside the hospital etc. The number of dogs straying around the hospital is more than the number of doctors and medical staff.
Women have to reach the hospital since early morning for check up still they fail to undergo checkup. Nearly 500-600 women reach maternity hospital on daily basis but only 100 are admitted while the remaining are forced to return. The diagnostic lab is closed at 12 o’clock as a result women patients have to opt for private laboratories. Pregnant women mostly suffer from anemia but the hospital has no blood bank. The hospital with 462 beds has only one scanning machine. The non-availability of beds is taking a toll on pregnant women as many women are forced to deliver babies on floor. It must be noted that a chunk of the patients are from old city, Mahboob Nagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Medak and Nizamabad districts.
